Ryan’s Round: Mailbag

by ry3694

Hello and welcome to the first edition of Ryan’s Round; which is a fancy gimmick given to a round of mailbag answers with yours truly. I didn’t really have anything of interest to write about because I need to catch up on everything WWE some day soon. Yes, unfortunately I have been slacking lately, but I promise it’s not my fault! Dad cancelled the Sky Sports package! *Sobs uncontrollably* Anyhow, I’ve been dying to do one of these mailbags since forever. I’m all for interacting with the Wrestling Rambles following and anyone with any interest whatsoever in the wrestling world.

So without any further delay here it is:

Will Randy Orton be fired by the end of the year? – @JW_Punk

I don’t believe so. Randy Orton is SmackDown’s biggest star and they will need him back to regain star power which it is currently lacking. The WWE switched Punk over to SmackDown for recent house shows; this is only because Orton’s not there to draw more seat tickets. That being said, there have been reports of several WWE stars and personnel calling for Orton’s demise in the company. My general feeling on Orton is that he will stay. If he breaks the wellness policy for a third time there is nothing stopping WWE from letting him go for a year and then resigning him as it states in the Wellness Policy.

How many matches more will Brock Lesnar have? #TeamLesnar – @Tyler_Kellar

A few more that’s for sure. Being contracted for 25-30+ more appearances we are sure to see him in some more matches. My feeling on Lesnar is that he’ll appear on Raw but won’t actually wrestle on many of them. As we know, Lesnar’s next ring appearance is set to be against Triple H at SummerSlam. I think Triple H will win that one but I also predict that we’ll see a return match. We could even see Lesnar go one on one with Triple H at Mania next year. You never really know with the WWE but we’ll see Lesnar in the ring at SummerSlam and definitely after it as well.

How long do you think CM Punk will retain the WWE Championship title? – @GrammarNazi82

Punk’s run in WWE is going really well. So well in fact that WWE have chosen to have Punk beat Daniel Bryan twice, including the triple threat match that also had the devil’s favourite demon Kane. I could definitely see Punk carrying the belt until SummerSlam but I have a sneaking suspicion that Daniel Bryan will win the title soon. Bryan’s popularity is rising, potentially taking over Punk’s popularity. I would definitely say Punk to remain champion until SummerSlam, after that it’s a waiting game for Bryan to win it.

When do you think Kharma will come back? – @MuckyMorris

Not soon enough unfortunately. It seems like the Diva division has been forgotten about. Yes, we are still getting matches on Raw but it seems like they are just used to fill the time. Literally no story building is going on with the Divas (other than AJ) so we are just seeing random matches being thrown up. However, with that being said, Kharma could be the tool that’s needed to fix the whole lot. Remember Extreme Rules last year where Kharma came out after the Laycool match and gave Michelle a departing gift? Well that could definitely be a factor in a Layla-Kharma feud. Or we could eventually be given the feud we want in the divas division – Beth Phoenix vs Kharma or else Natalya vs Kharma. Overall, I think Kharma could be seen within the next two months.

Who is the best current tag team in wrestling? – @stricklandjared

As a whole this is quite hard for me to answer because I don’t really watch much outside of WWE. I quite like the tag team of Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel. Tyson Kidd is probably one of the best technical and highflying wrestlers in the business at the moment and Justin Gabriel is a great highflyer too. I’ve always been a huge fan of Tyson and I love his work so I would probably go with them. I would say that the Briscoes in ROH are a great tag team too, great chemistry and totally bad ass.

Who would you like to see at the raw 1000? – @Jakerobbins9

MANY! My list is pretty endless for the Raw 1000th episode. WWE have the hard job of carefully showcasing the talent they had but also showcasing the current roster in good, healthy light. What I mean by that is WWE need to say, “Well here’s these legends that created countless memorable moments. But let’s not forget the current roster who will take us onwards and upwards.” My list includes: DX, Stone Cold, The Rock, Jericho (Attitude Era-like), Taker (returning as bad ass Taker would be HUGE), APA and then you need the current ones such as CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus and Cena. I think Lesnar’s going to show up and do some damage to HBK to light the HHH-Lesnar feud.

Out of the current crop, which ‘indie darling’ do you think WWE will sign next? – @Lloyd_LED

There’s been talk of Sami Callihan being at Raw and SD takings behind the scenes talking with some WWE employees. So there’s a good chance we could see him. There’s also been talk of Briscoe Brothers being contacted. I’d be in favour of the Briscoe Brothers being contracted because they’re a great tag; something that WWE needs more of. WWE don’t have much in the way of tags with the only tags being Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel, the Usos, Kofi Kingston +1 and the Players or whatever Titus O’Neill and Darren Young are calling themselves. If WWE are serious about building the tags up we could expect the Briscoes to come in. In wrestling you never truly know.

Will Ryback ever fight a worthy opponent like Tensai or Brodus Clay or will the WWE keep giving him jobbbers every week? – @MusicQueen88

I can’t see WWE making Ryback challenge worthy opponents any time soon. They’re trying to build him up as a machine; one that lifts several people over his head. I think WWE will want Ryback to lift more and more people. 2, 3 maybe 4. It’s probably going to get impossible to lift that many but I think they may want him to lift 3 people before moving on to serious, worthy opponents.

Best beard in WWE history? I’m for Sandow personally! – @Helenrobinson82

Should have expected a hair related question from you considering you asked Derrick Bateman how often he waxes! Hahaha, brilliant. Best beard definitely goes to Daniel Bryan. #YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES

Will the beautiful AJ ever get back with goat face? – @lethal_weapon

#YESYESYES
I predict we’re going to see an AJ heel turn aligning herself with a conniving Goat Face. This whole crazy chicks routine has seemingly been in favor of CM Punk but I think at Money in the Bank or SummerSlam we could see AJ switch it up and go with goat face himself making Punk drop the title to Bryan in an attempt to make up for her “losing” his title at Mania. You never know with these crazy chicks.

Dave Batista for Raw GM? – @HelenRobinson82

Whilst he could make an interesting choice I don’t think it will happen. Dave has openly spoke about his love for WWE but not in these PG days. Therefore I’m not expecting him to show up any day soon. Plus, if he was to return I think it would be in a wrestling capacity which would be great because could you imagine a Batista-Ryback feud?! Would be great!

Are WWE right to wipe Benoit from history? – @Helenrobinson82

NO NO NO NO NO. Such an amazingly gifted wrestler that used to be one of the few wrestlers I genuinely marked out for. Sure the Rock was great, as was Stone Cold but Benoit was a pure wrestler. His bouts with Jericho were some of my favourites. Although the guy was “big” he was always seen as somewhat of an underdog because of his height. Ask anyone this question and you’ll get different answers each time but each time mine will be NO. Forever will I remember Benoit pulling and pulling to get Big Show out of the ring during the final moments of the Rumble and forever will I remember shouting at my screen as if I was front row of the crowd. Benoit done so much for WWE over the year and most people if not everyone can remember the WrestleMania 20 celebration with Eddie. Tears, ohhhh the tears! I could go on and on with some of my favourite memories of Benoit. But I’ll leave it at this;

The Great Khali (although sort of accidental), Scott Hall and apparently Lex Luger have all killed someone yet these men continue to wrestle or be recognised on WWE tv or video games. Yes what happened in Benoit’s last days were ugly and horrific but to acknowledge the men mentioned above and to ignore someone like Benoit seems a bit unfair. I really do believe that killing is killing and if you ignore one, you ignore them all and the only reason they refuse to acknowledge Benoit now is because there was a much greater media presence in the case and you know Vince… He’s never one to surround himself with someone in negative media light… Oh wait, Charlie Sheen’s going to be on RAW. I guess it’s just Vince’s way of being an idiot. Vince makes the rules, didn’t you know?

—————————————————————————————————————–

——————————————————————————————————————

That’s all for this week, I will definitely do some more mailbags in the future seeing as I had a ball doing this one. Also hope you enjoyed the match I put in there as an extra! Any chance to enjoy and share a Benoit match I will take advantage of. Also got pretty exciting news that I managed to score an interview with WWE’s own Derrick Bateman! Woohoo!

To follow me on Twitter and continue the discussion please direct your tweets to @Real_Ryback (yes, for anyone that noticed I’ve changed my twitter handle and I am indeed the real Ryback! NOW CAN YOU DIG DAT, SUCKAAAAAAAAAAAAAS?!)

Come back for me next week,

Fully agree on Orton, there’s no way he’ll get fired.

Mark my words, Briscoe Brothers will be in WWE someday, they’re incredible.

I’m actually growing a Sandow type beard at the moment, I should post a pic of it.

Yeah, Orton’s too big of a star to get fired! Like I said in the event he does break the policy for the third time the let him go for a year; write him off then bring him back a year later. It’s so obvious.

Briscoe brothers are incredible. I love them and would love to see them in WWE. They could be the modern day Dudley Brothers or similar to that. They’d definitely spice up the tag division.

Haha POST THE PICTURE! POST THE PICTURE! POST THE PICTURE. New chant and all that.

I agree more on Orton more than on the Briscoes. If I had to name my top 10 favorite WWE performers, he’d be all 10. The Briscoes have been made offers.by WWE, and they’ve turned them down. I know it’s hard for some people to believe, but the WWE is not the ultimate goal for everyone.

Like Ray said, of course it isn’t. Some don’t like how WWE operate and that’s perfectly fine. No one can judge them for turning WWE down cos it’s their life and their choice. I also didn’t know they had turned an offer down from WWE. Sad to hear though because it’d be cool to see them on TV every week.

Lets face it, this man claims to be smarter than the masses and expects to be taken seriously yet he wears pink ring gear! No one is gonna take him seriously with those, they worked with Macho Man cos he was whacky, but they dont suit Sandow’s character at all.

Well, Mike Knox had the best beard volume wise but Daniel Bryan actually brought attention to his beard with the whole no shaving til Mania thing he had going for a while. Michael Cole kept saying on SD how Bryan wasn’t shaving the beard until Mania blah. So the fact it was mentioned (at the time) on every DB match then yeah, I’m going with Daniel’s beard.

I dunno I mean he could have acknowledged the WRESTLER without the death. They could at least give credit where credit is due. The dude done a lot for the company in the time he worked for them and his death and surrounding murders just completely wiped that out.

Let me put it like this: If one of your family members ever done what Benoit done (and I hope they don’t btw, I only wish your family all the health in the world) would you remember them for what they done at the end of their life or what they done throughout their life like that one time they got drunk and called you a leprechaun? (which probably never has happened but you get what I’m getting at here) Personally for me, I’d remember the good times and choose to ignore the bad times.

Benoit wasn’t in his right state of mind at that time. I’m not saying we can just ignore the whole incident completely but surely we can all still remember what he done inside the squared circle?

Plus, I bet if WWE were to release a Benoit DVD tomorrow of all his best matches you would see a good amount of sales, in fact I’d probably go above and beyond and say you’d see more sales for a Benoit DVD than a DVD based on most of the locker room today.

I get what you mean and I see Vince’s point but he did have a choice in deciding whether the legacy of the WRESTLER Chris Benoit lived on or went out with as little as a whisper.

Plus say WWE did release such a DVD then they could donate half of the profit to charity or scientific research; thus giving it more purpose. Then again, Vince is all profit margins and shit so there’s no way he’d give profits away.

I’ve been wanting to take an inventory of my wrestling DVDs, so I just did. Counting everything as 1 (sets with 2,3,4,and 6 disc sets) . I have 434. I’m proud to say that not one of them does he appear on. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I separate the wrestler and what he achieved in the business to the man who was ruined by the same business and commited the hideous crimes. What us wrestling fans fail to realise is that wrestlers have an outside life and private business that is none of our business whatsoever yet we choose to be nosey and read every news article on them. We sit high and mighty on our high horse full of morals judging these people that led lives that are stressful and tough on them both mentally and emotionally.

Him, Eddie and Owen’s deaths were sad in different ways.

            Chris: A family gone.

Eddie: Clean and sober for four years. And he died so fast, his toothbrush was still in his mouth!

I think Chris’s saddened me the most because it was a year after Eddie or something like that. Eddie’s was hard in that it was just so sudden. Then Chris was almost torn up in shreds cos of Eddie’s death, I think it hit Chris really hard and then Chris went off the deep end and unfortunately the son and wife were killed too. Crazy world. Sad world.

I never actually seen Owen’s fall or surrounding events. Don’t think I was really into wrestling when it happened. But obviously it all sounds sad.

    Nice Q&A!
I agree with you on Orton…I don’t see him being fired at all. I think WWE will still squeeze what they can out of him and make him work his way back up to the title picture again.

I think Lesnar will be used for SummerSlam a bit, then maybe even something in the winter, but I think they’ll save the rest of his dates building up to WrestleMania next year. As much as people are hard on him, he’s coming back to put over other people. He could care less about win/loss…which takes a big man in this business.

As for Benoit I think that will slowly disappear. Wrestlers are already doing tribute moves to him on TV which if Vince really wanted Benoit to totally be wiped from history, that wouldn’t happen at all. Nice answer on this one!

      Thanks man!
For sure, Vince will always squeeze the last bit out of the talent before letting them go and in Orton’s case there’s a lot left to give because Orton sells. Whether we like it or not Orton sells merch, DVDs, PPVs to an extent. They need him to come back as a heel cos that’s always his best work. Being a babyface just isn’t Orton.

I agree with what you said about Lesnar actually. I’m quite hard on him but I think you’re right about him willing to put others over. At SummerSlam he’ll have to put over HHH because… it’s HHH! haha! I think you’re right in saying he’ll be used sparingly this year and then build him a good bit for next year’s Mania. Which I’m down for, providing he goes back to wrestling and none of this MMA bull.

My god, you’re on a roll of being right in what you’re saying! The whole mist around Benoit will eventually clear. Daniel Bryan’s using the flying headbutt which we haven’t really seen since Benoit and as we know is such a huge move from the Benoit moveset. It’s almost like a tribute from Bryan, which is nice. Vince wouldn’t allow Bryan to do it if he thought negativity would come from it. So I think you’re right, it might just start to go away.

I’m hoping HHH vs. Brock turns out to be really damn good actually. I’m excited to see these two together and I enjoy Brock in the ring just because to me he’s the most intimidating heel in WWE right now.

Orton…god. He does need to come back as a heel, but he also needs a fresh heel turn. Not same old viper, same 5 moves and same 2 looks. He’s so boring to me. Better as a heel, but still.

You know, as much as I dislike Brock, I think the match with HHH will be a good one. HHH wouldn’t have it any other way. But I really hope Brock gives us more wrestling moves and less MMA stuff because I just thought the two styles between him and Cena clashed and not in a good way.

Agree with you on Orton, he’s boring both ways but definitely better as a heel that’s for sure. He’s the same as Cena. 5 moves of doom but at least Cena has good Mic skills. I bet Orton wins WHC before Rumble next year.

        From Wiki:
On May 10, 1983, a few hours after Snuka had performed at a WWF TV taping at the Lehigh County Agricultural Hall in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Snuka placed a call for an ambulance. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene at Room 427 of the George Washington Motor Lodge in nearby Whitehall Township, they found Snuka’s girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, injured. She was transported to Allentown’s Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she died shortly after of “undetermined craniocerebral injuries.” Deputy Lehigh County coroner Wayne Snyder said, “Upon viewing the body and speaking to the pathologist, I immediately suspected foul play and so notified the district attorney.” Snuka was the only suspect involved in the subsequent investigation. Charges were not pressed against Snuka, although the case was left officially open, meaning no official judgment on whether the incident was accidental or homicide was ever made. In 1985, Argentino’s parents won a $500,000 default judgment against Snuka in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia, although Snuka appears not to have ever paid, claiming financial inability to do so.

He apparently threw her off the hotel balcony. Vince played up the that Snuka was some “dumb jungle boy” who didn’t speak English. He pulled some strings w/ the PA legal system.

woah!! Never knew that! So how did Vince cover up for him? Did he present an alibi for Snuka? And know McMahon is stuck on his high horse about Benoit.

The only reason Vince chooses to ignore Benoit is down to the fact it brought a much greater media presence to the wrestling industry as a whole. Agree or disagree?

            He paid off authorities.

And agree. The Benoit incident brought to much negative media to the business.

The bastard! And still to this day Snuka appears at times on WWE programming and other material such as DVDs and games.

Like I know Benoit bought negative attention but it was bound to come sooner or later, the amount of health hazards is ridiculous, or was ridiculous.

      Argument? ~reads all other comments~ Oh… sorry…but you can’t rewrite history :P

I mean, I agree with not going out of your way to mention/show Benoit on newer TV stuff, and not putting him in the HOF and such. However, I disagree with trying to wipe him from history, especially when other stars have done bad things themselves (not that those really compare to the Benoit incident). Like, I want the other two GD Survivor Series Anthology dvds! That means including Benoit, so be it. And quite honestly, I still enjoy watching his matches; no one can deny he was one of the best in the ring.

Look, I don’t dislike Benoit and to be quite honest with you, it was sad and horrible what happened, but it doesn’t have much of an affect on me. I didn’t know him personally or anything like. But I’m looking at this matter as if I was in control of WWE. Not so much that but as a business owner as well.

Look at it like this, if YOU were in charge of WWE, then one day one of YOUR employees commits horror by murdering his family, and YOUR business starts to become known as the fault for that, what would YOU do? Either stay the same you were or re-brand and re-build your product? YOUR business could very well fall to the ground so what would you do? WWE had to re-build their reputation, so stuff like the wellness policy came in. They wanted to ensure their strong/clean image so teamed up with BeAStar and other charities.

To keep that in full, strong tact, it’s best not to bring up any reminders of the unfortunate horror that potentially they were blamed for.

You have got to agree with me that WWE are doing this for their image, right? It’s the only and sole reason for them not ever showcasing Benoit on WWE TV again.

Now I AM NOT happy they are doing that, but I see clearly and fully why they did that and I do not blame them for it. At the end of the day, they’re a business wanting to make profit, just like ANY OTHER business would. Sometimes a business, especially with the stature of a corporate one like WWE, have to make decisions that isn’t popular with their market.

The issue wasn’t that people would not watch it anymore, the issue is that sponsors wouldn’t want to advertise and shit with a company that has a bad reputation because it would potentially damage their own revenue/business.

Now I love watching Benoit as he was an incredible performer and I do respect him and I understand what he did was wrong, but he thought it was an okay thing to do, even though it was not. He was fucked up in the head like.

Bring the wellness policy and team up with charities seems to be enough for everyone to see that they’re looking out for their wrestlers and external people.

The thing that annoys me most is the fact they just dumped him at the drop of a hat because the media was scrutinised them which in fact was fair because lets face it they were the ones who failed in helping Benoit out.

There’s a way to remember and to me WWE just don’t have an interest in doing so. Despite what fans want. Fans want to be able to buy DVDs that included Benoit and WWE has stripped away that right. Shouldn’t us, the fans, who pour money into the company be able to decide if we want go watch his work? I know it’s a divided opinion so he ultimately had to make a decision; I can respect that but what I cant respect is the fact McMahon can’t take tye flack dealt to him for Benoit. Be a man and accept the mistakes.

One thing that particularly frustrates me is how during the Rumble season they fail to mention how Benoit lasted over an hour and won the damn thing. Like at least acknowledge it, there’s no harm in talking about how things were booked previously.

Oh, I agree that the current state of the business can be attributed to the Benoit incident, and that Vince changed it up to protect the WWE.

But still…the Survivor Series Anthology…I want the other volumes! Basically, what I’m saying, is that history cannot be erased. Benoit shouldn’t be edited out of certain things today (in 2007 and the few years after that yes). And if he’s going to be mentioned in a historical way, it should be either neutral, or made clear that he committed something awful.

One of the best way to heal wounds, is to acknowledge one has a wound.

Whole heartedly agree with you J. Your last line summed it all up for me. I wouldn’t be so pissed off at them if they acknowledge the good points of his career.

I get that he has to protect the WWE but at the end of the day you can’t rewrite history, never will. Vince is trying to ensure young fans don’t know the name Benoit and considering what Benoit done for them over the years I don’t think that’s entirely fair. As J said, mention him but make sure it’s neutral or else force the message that what he done was wrong, just as Vince forces the message that Cena is a wrestling god;-)

Check out the tagged classics collection. It has the old events without any editing and aired as they were shown (no editing out of WWF and they show all the matches). I got a new copy of Wrestlemania X-Seven and it had every match on it, as well as an extra promo that Benoit did on heat before the event.

Yah Michael, I have that tagged classic. I actually bought Royal Rumble 2004 for £4.99 on silvervision. Always wanted it and it was cheap as chips. Silvervision have a good sale on. Well, a lot of DVDs from 2003-2004-2005 :)

plus Ray I mentioned other cases such as Scott Hall that should violate their careers just as Benoit’s has been. Scott Hal killed a cop yet he became even bigger by wrestling in WCW and WWE. How can that be fair? Snuka’s is even more shocking seeing as Vince paid the authorities off. The only reason Benoit is being erased is down to the fact there was more media presence which was always going to be the case seeing as it was 2006.

I’ve heard Hall’s case was kind of a drunken bar fight.

Was it a cop he killed? Even still, being drunk is no excuse for killing someone. Hall is a mess now.

It’s not so much an excuse, but there are different levels in killing somebody.

Drunken brawls happen all the time and sometimes people do get killed. That is different than going out and intending to murder someone. It could’ve been in self-defense. We weren’t there and don’t know.

Thats true. There’d be no writers if everyone got hooked! I’m not hooked by any means. Only played it once, I sorta think it’s too in depth. There’s too much to keep your eyes on.

Yeah I downloaded it from some website with the word hippo in it. I haven’t downloaded any of these mod storylines or things like that.

I apparently have to learn about “zip extracting” bc I have a Mac. :( Think I’ve downloaded it twice. It brings up this text box, that says I have to put pictures in files and such. Did you have to do any of that?

Well I’m not so sure with macs but here’s what I done on PC:

            - Downloaded off the website
            - Extracted the files into a folder using Winzip
            - Ran the .exe file
            - Installed it
            - Finish

You can put logos into the folders if you wish but I didn’t, because I couldn’t be bothered. Plus it already has some logos.
