Ray’s Way: WWE is like Coca Cola

by Ray The Rambler

I won’t bother with an intro, let’s get right to it.

The problem with professional wrestling is the fact WWE are a monopoly. Let’s face it, the only promotion in the world close to WWE is TNA, and they’re light-years away from being on WWE’s level. There is no competition, which is the real problem. WWE can use this as good or for evil. Why? Well who is going to stop them? Nobody.

WWE can take advantage of wrestling fans and more importantly; wrestlers. Look at AW being released as an example. He made one lousy joke about Kobe Bryant and he gets released, yet Vince McMahon can publicly mock JR on LIVE television. Who can do something about this? Nobody.

Pro Wrestling is not like a sport. It is a business. Sure wrestlers are athletes in their own respect, but all in all it is a business. WWE own all the big ‘players’, the greater amount of them.

WWE own everything. They own copyrights to every memorable moment in the history of the business. These memories can’t be seeing on TV without WWE getting compensated for it, unless it’s on WWE TV.

The WWE Network will eventually be available, and it will feature wrestling clips from the 60′s to now. Why? Because they OWN them. It’s all copyrighted to WWE. No other show can feature this. So basically, WWE own wrestling’s  history, present and future.

WWE are a global phenomenon, just like they say on their shows; and they’re 100% correct. Why? Because of us. The fans. We complain about it often enough, yet we still watch it. Why? Because we’re hooked and there isn’t many alternatives to watch wrestling.

WWE is a ‘castle’ with an unstoppable amount of protection. Nobody can touch them. It will stand the test of time, just like Coca Cola will.

But WHY are WWE a monopoly? Because of Vince McMahon and his business sense. He’s very smart. He could be a lot richer if he had better business people surrounding him IMO. Vince bought his competition and nobody could do anything about it. Which is very sickening.

These men in tights are business men. No matter what way you look at it. Take Rey Mysterio – Their Mexican hero, they now have a huge market in Mexico. John Cena – Their young audiences’ superman. Before him; Hulk Hogan. The Great Khali – The Indian superman.  Santino Marella – The Milan miracle, which is exactly what he is. Hornswoggle – Do I need to explain?? Then there is guys like CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton who make the shows interesting. Then guys like Brock Lesnar, Triple H, Undertaker who are star power and you will buy PPV’s because of their star power. They are larger than life characters.

Because of all this, it leads to the disadvantages to us, the fans.

  • WWE are being less innovative, creative etc.. why? Because they own the business. There is nobody there to force them to be better.
  • Inefficiency. Because WWE own the business, they can afford to be inefficient. How? By raising the price up of their tickets, travel packages etc.. Nobody is forcing them to drop the prices. Because there is NO COMPETITION.
  • We wrestling fans really haven’t got a choice, do we? That’s the fucking problem.
  • The only wrestling show I can get without hassle in my living room is WWE. I can get TNA but 3 days after it airs in the US. It’s hard to watch Indy promotions online without paying for them. Which I don’t blame. I know you can get free stuff but I just like to watch wrestling on my full HD television. It’s comfort and it doesn’t ware out your eyes.

And do you want to know why WWE doesn’t advertise on TV as much anymore? BECAUSE THEY DON’T FUCKING HAVE TO. But WWE are using this to their disadvantage. What they should be doing with their savings is giving us lower PPV prices, but do they? NOPE. They use it as their advantage because they can. They own the business. There is nobody there to force prices down.

And guys, that is the truth.

That’s all I have to say. If you got thoughts, let me know. Thanks for reading.

Well, CM Punk, himself, said that Vince should be a Billionaire right now but he isn’t because he surrounds himself with douchebag “Yes” men like Laurinaitis, who kiss Vince’s ass.

Yeah, it’s only until recently I realize that. And from what AW and JTG have been saying on Twitter, there is some amount of bullshit happening backstage. Full of hypocrisy.

I’m just disgusted with the entire AW situation. In no way did he deserve to be fired. Should he have been punished or fined? Yes. Fired? No. There have been way more offensive things to happen in a WWE ring over the past decade. Let’s see: necrophilia, HHH’s racist promo on Booker T, constant stereotyping of minorities (Cryme Tyme, Yoshi Tatsu, Kerwin White, R-Truth, etc.), exploitation of Eddie Guerrero’s death and of course, the never ending humiliation of JR.

The way I see it, AW made an honest mistake and apologized for it. Now the WWE has lost a talented talker who really could’ve helped young talent like Titus O’neal and Darren Young progress. Without AW as their mouthpiece, they will be forgotten about in a few weeks. I promise!

And at least Pepsi is a worthy adversary to Coke. For how good TNA has been lately, they will never be a Pepsi-like level of direct competition to WWE.

Yeah exactly. Punishment was totally harsh and unfair and the hypocrisy involved here is mind-blowing.

That’s a good way to describe TNA. But coca cola is much more than just ‘coke’. Coke is one of their many products.

Would that make “ROH” like RC Cola?

No clue what RC Cola is, lol.

But ROH will outgrow TNA in the next few years. ROH have the right people, TNA are confused and mixed up.

I really agree, WWE don’t make as much effort as they could, yet they are still so far in front of any other company. I do like to watch TNA and think it has steadily improved but it can be frustrating watching it 3 days after it is aired in the US. As far as indy promotions I know what you mean. I think however that the best option for TNA is perhaps longevity rather than to compete directly with WWE.Going back through wrestling history WWE does own everything which is why I think TNA must survive as long as they can gathering their own support and improving a little at a time. I think TNA will look to build their own history rather than looking at the history of wrestling.

That’s what TNA are trying to do, they have no other choice but to. It’s just they’re way behind WWE and don’t look a threat at all to them. Even looking from a long point stand-view. TNA are too inconsistent with their ratings. They don’t have fans like WWE do. Not as loyal anyway.

I think it’s mostly Vince. He’s just so out of touch.

I do think some wouls complain no matter what was on. They want EXACTLY what they want. Forget about having something for everybody. If every segement isn’t what I want, then the show “sucks ass”.

I say wrestling needs to get rid of the whole face/heel concept and have each wrestler be a super-charged version of themselves. Just about everybody is cheered and booed by people from the crowd, anyway.

Sorry Capt. only saw this now.

I guess that is the feeling backstage which is so wrong.

The thing is WWE has all the power in the contract. The only way that stops is when fans rise up(Matt Hardy, DB, etc.)

I wouldn’t say that WWE owns the majority of major players, simply, they make guys the major players. They could hire any number of indy schmucks, and if they wanted to (and said talent weren’t completely talentless), could make them major stars.

And wrestling is too a sport, curse you!

But you do see WWE being a monopoly is a bad thing?

That yes. I don’t know if Coca Cola is the right comparison, though, as Pepsi is much more a competitor than TNA is to WWE.

That’s what I wanted to get across. Pepsi to just Coke, then yes. But Pepsi compared to the Coca Cola corporation are nowhere near them. CC have hundreds of drink products across the globe!

I think Pepsi is owned by Yum! Brands. They also own Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC.

I think it’s more of Vince being out of touch and a bit insecure.

I’m not saying there aren’t, but WWE are more less a monopoly. The majority of wrestlers aim to go to WWE and WWE only. There’s no competition to force WWE to be better. They are their own competition.
